About "Catch & Research"

Welcome. I found my passion in ecological economics and fishing. They are all about pursuit of unknown and uncertain objects. I always enjoy the seemingly reckless pursuit itself. This blog is a record of my long journey in research and fishing. Your comments are welcome and appreciated.

Bassfishin.com

I found this website about bass fishing while surfing youtube. It has very helpful and instructional video clips. I liked the way that they teach techniques. Most of them are basic but can be helpful to any level of anglers as reference. I highly recommend this website to fellow anglers. I hope that they use more multi-media or other tools in their video. For example, knot tying can be best presented by animation rather than actual video. Also, I hope the host wears a hat on the boat. It is too shiny! Just kidding, :-)

Here is a sample video just for beginners. Its title is "Preventing Line Twists on Spinning Reels When Bass Fishing."

It is what I called one of "the most important tip" for spinning anglers! I have been thinking to tape and post this tip. It is simple but can effectively prevent tangle or any other line trouble. I learned it in hard way. So, trust me and try this tip every time you cast.

Trout trolling

I went out for kayak fishing for the first time in this season. I did trolling and fishing with tiny spinner after brown trout. I caught one on my trolling set. It was about 9" brown. Too small, so I released it. Spinner didn't produce any. Different from other trout cousins, brown keeps biting actively even during summer.

Another surprise catch: 15" walleye on topwater lure

What's going on? Up side down in waters? I caught 15" walleye on top water lure this evening (about 7:15pm/high tide/mildly turbid water). I had caught walleye on my bucktail jig before, but never expected to catch one on top water lure. Strange... I forgot my camera, duh... Walleye is slick fish. Ah, actually, walleye motivated me to start fishing: I heard that walleye was tasty fish and wanted to eat it. Unfortunately, I have not cooked it yet. Hopefully soon. It is hard to find clean water which has walleye.

I happened to meet Kurt, birdwatching pastor at the shore. He was taking pictures of four new-born peregrine falcon. It is my joy to watch this awesome bird flying high while fishing.

Strange: catfish on swimbait + propbait

I caught catfish on a combination of swimbait and propbait! At first, I could not believe my eyes. Catfish must be very active at this time and ready to attack anything swimming. It gave me good fight, too. It will be remembered as one of the strangest catches in my fishing history.
